The John Kurtz Memorial is a pre-season invitational tournament which began in 2006 to mark the sudden passing of John Kurtz. John was a dear friend of tournament supporter and lifelong Kilmarnock Volleyball stalwart, David McCrae.

Killie legend David McCrae
A native of the USA, John’s love of Scotland, all sports (golf in particular) and Ayrshire was massive. He often spoke of the times spent here and the people he met, particularly golfing here in recent years. This is just the ‘tip of the iceberg ‘ about John Kurtz however. He was the epitome of how every one of us would wish to approach sport, at whatever level of our involvement – a blend of performance excellence, sportsmanship, fun, selflessness, team spirit and responsibility. The list is almost endless of the qualities John lived and breathed whether a committed coach, administrative organiser, supportive parent, or great player himself.
