There was a return to the league for Kilmarnock this week as they welcomed City of Edinburgh to Belmont Academy. The match was set to be a close encounter as both teams had made unbeaten starts to the season.

The match got off to a bad start for Kilmarnock, going down 8-3 in the first set before the first technical time out. Some positive words from coach, Stuart Edgar, at the time out was just what the Ayrshire team needed, and by the second technical time out they had taken a 16-15 lead, with middle blocker Stewart Caldwell getting some success both in hitting and blocking. Kilmarnock kept the lead through the rest of the set, before taking the set 25-23.

Kilmarnock built on the momentum early in the second set, taking an early lead. However, Edinburgh fought all the way through the set, and with the lead switching several times, the score eventually tied at 22-a-piece. From then on, some key errors from Kilmarnock gifted the set to Edinburgh, 25-22.
Edinburgh made light work of the last two sets, after they managed to exploit a weakness in the Kilmarnock passing unit, forcing the home team to play off slow and scrappy ball, and all though they went down fighting, Edinburgh ran away with the last two sets, 25-13, 25-18.
On a brighter note for Kilmarnock, the second team managed to win their match against Bellshill Cardinals 4-1 (25-19, 25-19, 21-25, 25-21,15-7) preserving there 100% win record and sending them to the top of the second division.
