There was a change of competition for Kilmarnock this week, as they played Glasgow Mets in the Top Teams Cup, at St Joseph's Academy.

There was a change of system for Kilmarnock as Stuart Edgar was moved to his preferred position of middle blocker, and Angus Mitchell taking his place as outside hitter.
Although Kilmarnock’s early play was scrappy, the change in tactic was proving effective, as Edgar thrived through the middle, and Mitchell also getting some joy in an unfamiliar position. The set was close all the way through, however Killie managed to grind it out, taking it 25-21.
The second set went in similar fashion, with neither team reaching their peak, however, thanks to some clever hitting from Gordon Welsh Killie would eventually take the lead. Kilmarnock would then go on to take the set, 25-21, to take a 2-0 lead.
The thirds set was a low point for Killie. The Ayrshire team did not manage to build on the momentum they gained from winning the first two sets and never managed to get a hold of the set. Mets won with a convincing 25-17 score line, to take the set score to 2-1 in favour of Kilmarnock.
In the fourth set, Killie went back to a more familiar style, with Edgar hitting outside, and Mitchell replacing him through the middle. The change got them off to a good start, with Edgar making some impressive kills and Stewart Caldwell managing to put away a number of hits through the middle. However, Mets raised there level also and stuck with Kilmarnock all the way through the set. In the dying stages, Mets put together a run of points which led them to winning the set 25-23.
In the deciding set, Mets blocking and defending proved too much for Kilmarnock, and the Glasgow side took it, 15-9, and the match, 3-2, giving Killie their first competitive defeat of the season.
