Scottish Cup Round 1

Su Ragazzi 0 v Kilmarnock 3

Kilmarnock now faced Su Ragazzi 2 to make it into the Scottish Cup. Kilmarnock started strongly in the first set getting young middle Calum Bryson in early doors, scoring throughout the set. This was achieved by strong passing through all members of our passing unit, controlled by Barry Chambers, who started at libero.

With the first set taken, Kilmarnock eased off the pedal slightly, which allowed Su to get back into the game, with the first technical timeout going at 7-8 Kilmarnock. After a re-grouping, Kilmarnock came out firing on all cylinders and took a 9-16 lead going into the second technical timeout. Gordon Tranyor, Steven Jackson and Angus Mitchell all stepped up during this set with a combination of strong passing, hitting and serving to push Kilmarnock for the second set.

Throughout the game, Allan Thomas was able to run his offence from the strong passing and the control that was shown from the free balls that were coming back from Su. Gary McGuire made some terrific pick ups during the 3rd, and final set, and demonstrated some quality hitting tactics from hitting zone 4. The team continued to play at their own level which enabled Kilmarnock to close out the 3rd set and win the game.
