John Syer Trophy

Glasgow Mets 3 v 0 Kilmarnock Blaze

Kilmarnock Blaze travelled to Glasgow this weekend to play their John Syer Trophy match against Glasgow Mets.  The Blaze had started the season with two wins and were hoping to keep up the momentum with a win against Mets.

After a slow start, Killie started to steady the score as the passing unit started to get into a better rhythm.  However Mets were the team putting on the pressure at the service line and built up a four point lead, which they held onto until 24-20.  Stewart Caldwell put on a run of three blocks to bring the score to 23-24, however The Blaze couldn’t complete the come back and lost the set 25-23.

Mets, again, started better in the second set, and when they put on a run of 9 consecutive serves, it gave them a commanding 16-4 lead.  Although The Blaze never gave up in the set, the lead was too much, and Mets took the set 25-12.

Kilmarnock came out in the third set full of enthusiasm, with an all or nothing attitude.  This showed early on as they managed to go point for point with the Mets team who had dominated most of the match.  As the passing unit stabilised, both Stuart Edgar and John Hollis showing when The Blaze get their play right, they are hard to compete with.  Despite this, the momentum Mets had built up over the first two sets was enough to take them through the third, and they took it 25-21.

Kilmarnock II did however bring home some good news for Kilmarnock as they beat Su Ragazzi II 3-0.
