Kilmarnock welcomed City Of Glasgow Ragazzi to St Joseph's this week for their first division clash. City Of Glasgow had won both previous games this season, but knew they would have to win to keep a realistic chance of qualifying for the play-offs, a win for Kilmarnock on the other hand, would almost guarantee them a place in the play-offs.
Gary McGuire was playing his first game for Kilmarnock I this season, to stabilise a passing unit that was without Gordon Welsh, and after a shaky start he soon got his eye in to provide an excellent attacking platform for Kilmarnock to build upon. The quality of passing gave Colin Giles plenty of setting options, and his effective use of Angus Mitchell in the middle put Killie in a strong position, and after a weakness was spotted in the Ragazzi passing unit, the serving of Euan Duncan closed out the set 25-21.
The serving of Euan Duncan again got Killie into a strong position in the second set. The Kilmarnock passing was again at its best, and hitters Stuart Edgar and Gary McGuire took advantage of the consequent setting, giving Killie the set 25-18.
Once again Duncan’s serving put his team in a commanding position in the third set, and after a run of quality blocking from Stewart Caldwell it was left for Angus Mitchell to serve out the set, Kilmarnock took it 25-22 and the match 3-0.
Kilmarnock II also had a good day against Su Ragazzi II, after a shaky start they took the match 4-1.
