It was the first match after Christmas in the volleyball calendar and Kilmarnock were looking to start this year in the same form they finished last, with a win over Team Fife.
Kilmarnock started in superb fashion, with Colin Giles and then Stuart Edgar putting in long runs of powerful jump serves to take them to a commanding lead in the first set, going 16-5 ahead before by the second technical timeout. Fife were never able to make up the difference, and after the teams traded points, Kilmarnock took the first set 25-15.
Kilmarnock again started strong in the second set, and took an early lead, going up 8-4 at the first technical timeout. The lead was extended with some smart hitting from middle blockers Stuart Edgar and Stewart Caldwell. The set finished 25-17 in favour of Killie thanks to some powerful hitting from Angus Mtichell.
The third set started in similar fashion with Killie taking an early lead, and when Giles put in another good run at the serving line they had an impressive 16-7 lead. Fife never got back into the set, as the teams went point-for-point until the end of the match, Kilmarnock taking the set 25-16 and the match 3-0, giving them a winning start to 2010.
Kilmarnock II did not get such a good start to the New Year however, as they went down 3-2 to Pentland NUVOC losing their first league match since November 2008.
