Travelling through to Bellshill this week, Kilmarnock were looking to keep their run of form going from last week’s massive cup win.
After a slow start, Kilmarnock seemed to pick ourselves up and come back strong. Kilmarnock came out with better mental preparation which allowed our offence to come from a strong passing unit. Grant was able to use the middles and outside freely, which caused havoc for Bellshill as the lacked height in the middle. After a comfortable victory in the second set, Killie kept up this performance in the third set by using all their array of offensive tactics. Gussy went on fire half way through this set, killing five out of five hits. This pushed our lead out which won the third set, going 2-1 up.
The fourth set saw both teams’ trade points back and forth, and then the game was flipped. A few calls which were very controversial and totally sucked the life out of Kilmarnock, which lead to a 24-17 defecate. A well needed time out boosted the team, and we came back with a number of blocks from Bryson and Traynor, pick-ups from McGuire and some pressure hitting from Gaw. This narrowed the lead to a few points. Unfortunatly for Killie, this wasn’t enough. The final point rolled over the net and just in.
The game ended with a flurry of points, but also errors from Kilmarnock, which cost them dearly in the end.
